Abstract Identifying the characteristics of students who carry out violent acts at school, particularly the acts of shooting, killing, and kidnapping, remains of deep national concern. To help prevent school violence, schools throughout the country have implemented programs to help school authorities and the parents of violent youths assess the potential for violence in students and follow up with possible interventions. Studies have identified certain characteristics among students who have acted out violently at school. Based on a listing of these characteristics, interview questions have been developed to determine if a particular student is a threat to his or her school's safety. These questions are one part of the assessment process and can be administered during a clinical, educational, or forensic interview.
